Spring Cleaning
March is upon us! Time to enjoy some hopefully nicer weather and open the windows, start purging items and declutter. With all the moving and grooving you are sure to find some dust bunnies. Here are some tips to help make spring cleaning not so overwhelming and maybe even dare I say, fun.
If starting one room at a time sounds daunting, start with one drawer. Take your time. You are on no ones schedule, but your own.
When you are going through things, when you complete on area any thing that you have designated to donate, take them immediately to your car and load it, or call the donation truck to schedule that pick up, otherwise you know it will stay there for months and months.
When it comes to cleaning your home the best tip I ever had, was don’t make it too complicated. Gather all of your cleaning supplies and bring them all to the room you are working in.
For wood furniture, my favorite is Howard Orange Oil - it will leave everything shiny, and I would highly suggest letting it dry before putting any knick-knacks back on the piece you just cleaned. Grab a microfiber cloth and gloves and start wiping down all your wood pieces, I promise those pieces will be so happy to have a good “drink” of moisture.
Walls & Baseboards - hot water, a tsp of the powdered tide, and a splash of bleach - grab any towels you would like - my favorite I get the shop towels from Costco.
Blinds/Shutters - Swiffer is your best friend! Wipe down each row. (swiffer is also your best friend when it comes to cleaning under the refrigerator, washer, dryer, and any other heavier appliances you have in your home)
Fans - Swiffer is your friend again!
Countertops - this will depend on what your countertops are made of - for mine which are 1957 special - formica - I use the dawn dish spray for the harder-to-get spots and then the water/bleach/tide combo to get them looking and feeling clean.
Windows/Mirrors - Windex is still my favorite go-to - a clean microfiber cloth and a hefty amount of windex depending on how dirty your windows are.
Floors - Hands down the OCedar Spin Mop with HOT water and a tsp of powdered tide - you will need to push down and pump the mop about 4-5 times you don’t want it to be sopping wet - just damp enough. Be sure to dump and reload your water multiple times you can’t clean your floors with dirty water :). Tip dump your water in your toilet)
Happy Cleaning friends!
